What do we do with the information we have collected.Good question: How can you link your experience to your classroom practice. How can I use my activity to the class. People are at different stagesProvided time to get back into group and talk. Life was busy at the beginning of the year. After SOAM teachers did not have time to go back and reflect.The fact that some teachers spoke about the reflection after the event.Conversations are starting; Not only on campus but in social situations. A genuine interest.the timing was great to be with the group, underwhelmed with the reflection question. Would have liked for it to dig in and provide an opportunity to think deeply.

    Data collection Template
    -What would be shared in the community vs. what data we keep internally. Taylor from communications said that she has been reading a book about this, and we should be cautious about using social networking. Tim sent a powerschool page that could be used also. Teachers would have access to a page that wouldn’t be “pretty”, but it could house information. One concern is that it needs to look good. Maybe the EC Coach from Puxi could support us with a program that could be user friendly and interesting for teachers to populate with information (Padlet).
    · Wiki /Moodle for housing Project NOW information and data
    -Tonya shared the updated Wiki. New links were added in, along with the phases of the design process. Additional pages were added (Ideas and Locations). This Wiki is designed for faculty to use. Also, there’s a new page called “project now @ work”, which is divided up by divisions. Could be linked to the articles that will be in the Eagle PN edition, or linked to the PN data warehouse.
    · Template for gathering information from Project NOW type schools
    -Go to the "practicing schools" link on the Wiki. The group was looking for categories of questions, and what other schools have done. We need to be able to group the data that we collect (quantifiable). The categories are Learning Environment, 21st Century Schools, The Learner, Who We Should Meet… Also, a walkthrough checklist/framework was created.

    San Francisco & Napa School Visits
    Ann and myself visited the D.School at Stanford, 3 Design Thinking Schools (East Palo Alto and Bayside STEM Academy in SF and New Tech High in Napa). There was definitely a take-away and theme from each of these visits which can be seen in the following keynote, which we presented to the team upon our return.

    Although each visit was extremely valuable, we found that New Tech High, which is under the New Tech Network, was the best model for SAS. Here are some foundational materials (rubrics, group contracts, schedules) that they shared with us.

    California School Visits and Innovation Conference
    It was an inspiring and educational experience for Kathleen, Janet, Tonya and myself. We visited an elementary school, middle school, a K-9 school (Nueva School) and attended the Innovation Conference at Nueva.
    Presenters included Tony Wagner, Creating Innovators, Larry Rosenstock, founder and leader of High Tech High, and David Kelly, founder of the Stanford, which we visited as well. Full report and learnings at our meeting.

    2014 - setting up an informal focus group of high school teachers and one principal (across different schools), to take part in an action research project investigating obstacles to developing a constructivist curriculum in grades 9 – 12.

    The research element
    Any design for transformational change should consider the needs of the clientele, current practices, and future challenges. Change theory (Hargreaves 2007) reinforces the importance of past knowledge in informed decision-making as opposed to grabbing the latest new trend. Models such as Van Oord’s (2013) 5-step process (beginning with the evaluation of current practice) serve as an example of protocols for development of a vision. This 5-step plan is significant in that it acknowledges that situational knowledge, collaboration, and the results of school-based action research are all necessary to designing an effective vision. It also reinforces the need for a structured approach. The ProjectNow committee has, and continues to, strive to identify and to investigate the principles of 21st century approaches such as Design Thinking.
